True The Vote

This week in voter ID news…

HOUSTON, TX. July 23, 2013True the Vote (TTV), the nation’s leading voters’ rights and election integrity organization, updated its federal lawsuit this week against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), adding IRS Chief Counsel William Wilkins, a presidential appointee, and five other ranking officials as Defendants. The complaint was also amended to add a claim of violating key portions of the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) of 1946.

“This lawsuit is the only way to get all of the answers involving this national scandal,” True the Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht said. “Our goal is not a speedy settlement or a quiet Washington deal. We will sue, depose and expose every person who came near this illegal scheme to suppress voters’ First Amendment rights. The American People – not just True the Vote – deserve answers.”

Breaking News: New Defendants Added to IRS Lawsuit

Late yesterday, True the Vote added six new defendants and another charge of federal law being violated to its high-profile lawsuit with the Internal Revenue Service. The Washington Post reported, “A conservative group suing the Internal Revenue Service on Monday amended its lawsuit over the agency’s processing of its request for tax-exempt status to include the agency’s chief counsel, William Wilkins.” This change to our suit will help expose all those involved in targeting conservative groups seeking recognized nonprofit status. Mr. Wilkins is one of only two people personally appointed by President Obama at the IRS. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. To read the full amended filing, click here.

Justice for Ohio Vote Fraudster Melowese Richardson

It’s not that common to see a case of an individual committing voter fraud and getting national media attention as a result. Then again, a person voting six times in a single election should be a cause for outrage. Last week an Ohio judge sentenced Ms. Richardson to five years in prison for her crimes against the People of Ohio – but not before railing against her demeanor and willingness to skate the law. TTV President Catherine Engelbrecht offered her take on the matter: “When you don’t value something there’s no incentive to improve it; so there it sits, weaknesses plainly on display for the all the Meloweses of the world.  Increasingly lax standards in our election process inevitably produce increasingly unreliable results.  And the few conversations that are had about how to shore up these weaknesses are immediately seized upon by certain politicians and special interest groups as fuel to further divide us based on drummed up race and class based narratives, stifling communication and leading to further voter disconnect.  It’s a vicious cycle, but it can be fixed if citizens wake up, stand up, and refuse to settle for a broken system.” Read Catherine’s full commentary here.

The Democratic Comeback to Voter ID – Barack Obama is just 102 days into his second term as President of the United States, and already, candidates are jockeying to replace him. Whether the 45th President of the United States is Marco Rubio or Hillary Clinton or Ted Cruz or Martin O’Malley may be determined not in Washington or Iowa or New Hampshire, but in Dickey Lee Hullinghorst’s office.

Voter ID Rule Part of New Election Laws – Arkansas voters will need to take photo identification with them to the polls under a new law passed by the 2013 Arkansas Legislature. During the legislative session, lawmakers overrode Gov. Mike Beebe’s veto of the measure. He called it “an expensive solution in search of a problem” that “is not supported by any demonstrated need.”

Secretary of State Schultz Explains Stance on Voter ID – Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz on Tuesday explained his efforts to improve voter turnout in Iowa, mainly through new voter identification laws.

IA Senate Rejects Voter ID Proposal – The Iowa Senate Tuesday night rejected a Republican-sponsored amendment to require Iowa voters to show a photo identification when they are voting. The effort failed on a 26-24 vote with Democrats against and Republicans in support.

Alabama; No Reason NOT to Support Voter ID – Could it be that voter identification laws are intimidating white voters and suppressing their turnout? In the wake of a recent Associated Press report that white voter turnout was down or stagnant last November as these new laws took effect, some would say that’s the logical conclusion.

URGENT COLORADO CALL TO ACTION:  Ask Governor Hickenlooper to veto HB13-1303 – or as one Senator dubbed it, the “Same Day Voter Fraud Act” – a bill that will severely damage Colorado election integrity. Contact the Governor at (303) 866-2471 and/or by email at

Now, what are we going to do… demand the RNC/GOP act to protect your vote… too protect our ballots from massive voter fraud… tell them we will not be RULED by FRAUD or any other form of electioneering…
